Bible Study Guide

1. Read the Command

Read Matthew 6:9-13 aloud together:

"This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'"

2. Tell the Story

Share the story of Jesus teaching about prayer (Matthew 6:5-15) in your own words:

Jesus taught His disciples about prayer, warning them not to pray like hypocrites who love to pray standing in synagogues and street corners to be seen by others. Instead, He taught them to pray privately and sincerely, using the Lord's Prayer as a model.

3. Read the Story Aloud

Read Matthew 6:5-15 together from your Bible.

4. Pray

Take time to pray together, asking God to help you understand and apply this lesson.

Bible Discovery Questions

What do we learn from the story about God?

God is our Father who cares for our needs, forgives our sins, and protects us from evil. He wants us to pray with sincerity and humility, focusing on His will rather than our own.

What do we learn from the people in the story?

Jesus shows us the importance of praying with the right heart attitude. The hypocrites show us what not to do - praying for show rather than for a genuine relationship with God.

Is there anything from the story Jesus wants us to obey?

Yes, Jesus wants us to pray regularly, privately, and sincerely. He wants us to pray for God's will, our daily needs, forgiveness, and protection from evil.
